Choosing the Perfect Window Treatments: Real Wood vs. Faux Wood Blinds

Selecting the right window treatments can significantly impact the atmosphere and functionality of your living spaces. In our exploration of diverse window treatment choices, one common dilemma that homeowners often encounter is the choice between real wood and faux wood blinds. These two options possess distinctive characteristics that can make or break the ambiance of a room. In this article, we unravel the differences and help you decide which option is best for each room in your home.

Moisture Resistance: Finding the Ideal Fit

When it comes to moisture resistance, this is where real wood blinds and faux wood blinds part ways. Faux wood blinds, thanks to their synthetic composition, are the heroes in high humidity areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. These blinds won’t warp or fade under the relentless influence of moisture. On the other hand, real wood blinds, while they exude natural beauty, can be adversely affected by humidity, making them better suited for drier spaces.

Weight Matters: Functionality at Its Best

Ease of operation is another critical consideration. Real wood blinds win the battle in this aspect due to their lighter weight. Opening, closing, raising, and lowering these blinds is a breeze. Meanwhile, faux wood blinds, constructed from composite materials, tend to be heavier and may pose a challenge, especially for larger windows.

Appearance: Natural vs. Imitation

One of the most apparent differences between real and faux wood blinds lies in their appearance. Real wood blinds offer a natural, warm, and organic feel. With their fine grain and unique details, they bring a touch of the outdoors inside your home. Faux wood blinds are designed to mimic the appearance of wood, often featuring an embossed wood grain. While they do a commendable job at imitating the real thing, they may not quite match the sophistication and refined quality of genuine wood blinds.

Durability: A Battle of Resilience

In the longevity department, faux wood blinds emerge as the winners. They are generally more durable and resistant to wear and tear. They’re less likely to chip, crack, or fade over time, making them a practical choice for high-traffic areas. In contrast, real wood blinds, though exquisite, may require more delicate handling to maintain their pristine condition.

Price and Maintenance: The Budget Factor

If you’re conscious of your budget, faux wood blinds are usually the more affordable option. These budget-friendly blinds can complement your décor without breaking the bank. However, if budget constraints aren’t a concern, real wood blinds can add a touch of luxury and timeless charm to your living spaces. In terms of maintenance, both options demand regular care to preserve their appearance and functionality. Dusting, occasional cleaning, and protecting them from excessive moisture and direct sunlight are recommended for optimal performance.

Room-by-Room Recommendations

Considering these factors, here are some recommendations for choosing between real wood and faux wood blinds in different rooms of your home:

Bathrooms and Kitchens: Opt for faux wood blinds in these high humidity areas to avoid warping or fading.

Bedrooms and Living Rooms: Real wood blinds can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to these spaces, making them a suitable choice for bedrooms and living rooms.

Home Offices and Dens: Both real wood and faux wood blinds can work well in these rooms, depending on your budget and personal preference. If you want a more upscale look, choose real wood blinds.

Children’s Rooms and Playrooms: Faux wood blinds may be a more practical option for these areas, as they are more durable and resistant to wear and tear.

Large Windows: Consider the weight of the blinds when choosing between real wood and faux wood. Real wood blinds may be more suitable for larger windows, as they are lighter in weight.

The choice between real wood and faux wood blinds isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s also about functionality and practicality. By understanding the differences and considering the specific needs of each room, you can make an informed decision that enhances both the beauty and the functionality of your home. So, whether you’re looking to infuse elegance, durability, or a budget-friendly option into your decor, there’s a perfect blind choice waiting to adorn your windows.

Ivan and his crew are highly professional and gave us the best quality blinds! Since we have a new baby, I didn’t want blinds that could hurt the baby if he was climbing on them and he was very knowledgeable about the type of blinds and safety of each. He also knew we were budgeting and gave us all the selections of blinds at all his costs. This company is the local “mom and pop” blinds that I highly recommend!

Update: Veteran Blinds took care of us well in our previous home, which is why we called them when we moved to our new home.
Had a great experience with Veteran Blinds. Ivan, the owner, personally went to quote our new home. He was professional and got to know what style and quality we were looking for to match our budget. They offer the same quality brands as their competitors however they came back much less than the others. Also, being a veteran myself I really appreciate the fact that this company goes out of their way to hire veterans. When it came to install day, Mark called me that morning and was able to schedule something same day. He and Steve are great guys and did great work. Really happy with our new blinds and I highly recommend them to anyone!

We have three, very large windows and a half-moon window in our Master Bedroom that we were getting a quote on for shades/ blinds. When my husband called them, the guy basically told us that our project is too small for them and it wasn’t worth their time. I have to say that I’m a little disappointed that a business is turning down potential customers and potentially larger jobs (if we liked the outcome of this project, of doing our entire house later)! We definitely will not be calling for service or recommending to anyone.
